It Won't Put You to Sleep

Hello to all you non-readers out there. I know that there are a few of you out there that read my little thoughts but still I like the non-reader idea so I am keeping it.

So I was driving home from work on Friday listening to NPR and it made me think. Now of course there were some wonderful stories that they were sharing and they were engaging as always but I wasn’t thinking of them I was thinking about how there are NPR people and there are non-NPR people. We were talking at work about what we listened to while going into work and I said NPR. One of my co-workers asked me, “What is that?” Well being that I think that I knew what NPR was before I even understood what radio was made it a little bit of a shock to me. Well I filled them in that it was National Public Radio and we went on but it really had me thinking.
Is there a certain way that people who listen to NPR think and talk? I remember sitting at lunch with some of my former co-workers talking about what we heard on NPR. I loved those discussions. Now that isn’t to say I don’t love the Twilight and Sex in the City discussions but there is a lot to be said about taking about the economic impact of the issues in Greece. Then of course it also makes me think that sometimes some of those lunch discussion made us sound a little bit like snobs. I mean the normal lunch conversation is what you watch on TV such as Gossip Girl not the trends in the Supreme Court decisions are affecting business but isn’t there a happy medium.

Also does listening to a little Fresh Air make us think about things that we wouldn’t normally. Does a little Morning Edition make us a better informed and globally thinking person? I think it does. So my non-reader take 10-15 minutes out of your day and take a listen. I promise that although popular belief is that Carl Castles’ voice might put you to sleep it won’t. You can go back to your Ipod after that but open yourself up to some interesting news.

Happy Listening! Let me know what you think? Did you hear anything interesting?
